MY FRIEND, MY BROTHER, MY MATE! IS IT HOW GOD WANT IT?
When you
told me at Niger Foundation Hospital that you could not drive after your
medical check-up, I was not weighed down neither, because I had a very high
hope of your survival. When we saw after the Christmas at hospital, though you
were weak, you assured me that things will be ok and we ate together with lots
of our common jokes. How ok was the promise? Then, filtered the shocking news
of your death.
You have
been a pillar to your family, friends, relations and community in general.
Peace maker and a folks-hero. Who will fill the gap?
Death is
inevitable in everyone’s life and in one way or the other, everybody must go. Gabriel, you were a true friend, a
brother and a mate. I have already started missing you in everything. I pray
God to prepare a better place for you in heaven, as well, device alternative
means that will enable better communication even at your death. MAY YOUR SOUL
REST IN PEACE. AMEN

TRIBUTE
TO A FRIEND
GABRIEL,
it is unbelievable writing a tribute to commemorate your sudden demise. A giant
iroko had yet again fallen. God, never allow the birds that perch on these
irokos lack branches.
The sign became ominous when you
stopped picking calls. You later called and made explicit explanations. The
sign heightened when tongues wagged. I had thought the Almighty would spare
you, more so when you used your mouth to dispel the rumors.
You were many things rolled into one.
Father Friend. Hero. Role Model. Colossus. Listener.
Goal Getter. Achiever. Neighbour. Adviser. Helper. Servant. Foresighted,
Peace Maker. Your qualities were “unputdownable”.
Gabe, you are gone but solace lies in
legacies trailing your demise. It is my fervent supplication that you sleep on
and rest in our Saviour’s breast till that resurrection morning.
Good
night, Mon Ami.
